We started the company in 1999. Its original name was The Rice Company, a UK subsidiary of a Californian company of the same name. The prime objective was to import high quality USA rice for the UK market.
At that time the Chinese catering market was dominated by 2 national brands of USA long grain rice. Due to a growing demand from the UK market we separated from The Rice Company in 2004 and set up an independent UK company namely TL Rice Ltd. This was because we were no longer dependent on sourcing USA rice and had discovered that a suitable equivalent was been grown around Seville in southern Spain.
The cooking characteristics of Spanish rice was perfect for the Chinese chef and once again we focused on an own label strategy which proved very successful. This ultimately became M L Rice Limited.
OUR STRATEGY
Our strategy was to give our major clients their own brand which would be exclusive to them. It would be a point of difference whilst allowing our customers to establish their own brand and still be competitive on price.
Under M L Rice we broadened our strategy to include fragrant rice from Thailand to compliment what we were already doing on long grain rice.
We focus on supplying a quality product at a competitive price with a reliable service. We source rice worldwide to ensure it meets the needs of our clients whilst constantly exploring alternatives that we consider may be suitable.
We consider ourselves a bespoke supplier of own label rice with the type of packaging material, pack size, origin and quality decided upon by our customer.
